History of Net 1on1:
Net 1on1 was formed in August 1998 by IT Professional Dean Farebrother who at the time was a senior IT manager for the First National Bank in Harrow. At that time before the Internet bubble had burst all the talk in the media was of Internet millionaire's and success stories.
Dean set-up the first Net 1on1 web site called 1on1sexshop in his spare time after work and at weekends. 1on1sexshop was to have a different approach to retailing adult products - it was trying to ditch the sleazy, cheep reputation the adult industry had up until that time and adopt a clean user friendly experience where customers could shop without being offended.
After a short period of time it became apparent that Dean had hit on a niche market and as a result Net 1on1's attention was turned to developing the UK's first online adult superstore.
By early 1999, the business was experiencing growing pains with most of Dean's time consumed running the operation. He took on another member of staff which resulted in an explosion of growth. In 2001 Net 1 on 1 launched an affiliate scheme which was a great success and now has over 2000 members. The Year 2002 saw the company’s fourth move to a 2000sq ft warehouse with 6 full time staff. Early 2003, Net 1 on 1 bought the domain name sextoys.co.uk and due to its success they had to move again to a purpose built 5,000 sqft warehouse and offices with 10 full time employees. It was this year that the company also moved into the wholesale market with 1on1wholesale.co.uk. Distributor deals with manufacturers in the US followed catapulting Net 1 on 1’s success in both retail and wholesale.
In 2004 the company employed a PR to maximise sales by increasing brand awareness. This saw the appointment of Monique Carty. Following her arrival the company saw another explosion in growth, which led to a further 3 employees joining the company.
In 2005 Net 1 on 1 covered off all channels when launching their drop ship service. A service,, which proved to be extremely popular and again, a great success. 2005 was also the year for awards when sextoys.co.uk was awarded, Best Online Retailer by the industry’s trade press and best Media Campaign by the local press. 2006 and 2007 saw them reclaim the title of Best Online Retailer, a fabulous achievement.
Since 1999 Net 1 on 1 has served over a quarter of a million customers and to this day is still growing.
Dealer and Wholesale Network:
Continued success has put Net 1on1 in a very powerful buying position and as a result very large discounts are awarded to us by all of our suppliers. This has allowed us to service a new market, the wholesale market. The launch of our wholesale catalogue late in 2002 provided a valuable service to smaller buyers who could not deal with larger suppliers due their small amount of stock turnover and large order minimums from distributors.
This service proved valuable for smaller business’s and party planners as it could offer the full range of stock from over 6 sources with a small minimum spend.
Yet another UK first was the development and implementation of our branded store technology. This allowed other webmasters to affiliate with Net 1on1 and become their own online retailer by importing our multi-storefront technology into their own websites. This has enabled absolutely anyone to become a dealer for us.
